The purpose of the Flemish Carillon Guild is to promote the carillon art in general and Flemish carillon culture in particular. The Guild brings together carillonneurs, carillon students, carillon enthusiasts, and activities of interest.

The functions of the Guild include:

- the promotion of carillon recitals, including a concert calendar
- national carillon day, yearly on the third Sunday of June
- the publication of a quarterly journal (VBV-Magazine)
- the publication and promotion of new carillon music
- the publication of a series of CDs
- the protection of the country's heritage of bells and carillons
- defense of professional regulations for the carillonneur
- active representation in the World Carillon Federation
